It's time to stop living in my own comfortable coc

It's time to stop living in my own comfortable cocoon and start sharing my art with the world again.⁣
⁣
Two not so perfect portraits. But what am I saying?! Ya girl, art should never be perfect. Maybe using 'should' is not even appropriate. Art can be whatever you make of it.⁣
⁣
If it feels perfect to you, own it. If it doesn't, remember you can find beauty in the imperfect.⁣
⁣
So let's go on the journey on finding the imperfect together. Behold, it's a long one.

There is something satisfying about illustrations

There is something satisfying about illustrations that has my mind occupied. This made me decide to just try and create some illustrations myself. It's completely out of my comfortzone. Last week I did a course on portrait illustrations and it gave me a bit more confidence and direction on how to progress.⁣
⁣
As some of you may have noticed I've been a bit inactive on Instagram due to a creative block of some sort. I've been feeling stuck in my own art and which direction to go. So I decided to take a total different course and explore illustrating 'for now'. Mainly cause I feel it's totally different from what I usefully draw and that is staying close to realistic drawings.⁣
⁣
What I adore about illustrating is that you can kinda let go of reality and of making the perfect picture. When you draw a realistic portrait all these factors weight with it: the right proportion, shadow work, emotions, does it look like the person you draw?! That last bit is the most difficult part. Perfectionism will peak around the corner and tell your portrait does not like the reference portrait. This is starting to annoy me a lot.⁣
⁣
In a way you can let go of this perfectionism in illustrating cause you are not trying to make a duplicate of the reference picture. You give your own twist to it and create your very own proportions. I find it magical and I have always been fascinated by artist who made their own reality in drawing.⁣

So I hope to explore illustrating with you guys. I want to use this instagram to share my creative journey which is how I once started on here 2 or 3 years ago already(!?). Are there some people here that remember? ⁣

This amazing artist (@beyelerdominic) created a #drawthisinyourstyle challenge for all the right reasons. This is my recreation. ⁣

It feels like ages since I made a proper sized portrait. At first while making this I thought this wouldn't work but I kept going and I am happy about the result. I started following a course on YouTube about drawing portraits and hopefully I can learn and make a portrait without reference one day. That feels like the ultimate challenge for me. ⁣
⁣
Gotta keep yourself uccupied during quarantine. ⁣
⁣
And I ordered two more books today... ⁣
⁣
